Tourists still seem to be very safe in Myanmar. You should, however, avoid crowds and strolls through unknown quarters, especially after dusk. If you have Internet connection at your hotel, read news updates (for example www.irrawaddy.org, www.mizzima.com, or elevenmyanmar.com ), and ask the hotel staff if they have any updates.
